Megan Metcalfe was sacked in June by Birds The Confectioners after she paid for customers' purchases with her own card so they could use cash.
She had worked for the firm for 44 years and was showing rare humanity by trying to help the customers.
Despite a petition that raised a considerable sums, she was sacked by Birds or trying to help her community.
It was a a story begging for a folk song ... When Pixie Styx sparked the idea, Al Rate & Cookie got together with multi-instrumentalist Martin Gallimore to produce another tale of Notts life.

Birds The Confectioners
Birds the Confectioners for those in the know, was where you’d get y’ bread and y’ dough. You could get a custard tart or iced fingers, you could get a sausage roll t’ go
2020 was the year of the plague, they called it Covid_19, if you went dahn to the confectioners, cash was nowhere to be seen
So when Ernest & Jessie went to Birds, to order some tarts & some bread, the sign on the door said sorry duck, we can’t take cash from under your bed
Put the pork in the pie and the cream in the slice, praise the Lord for the understanding heart. Put the fruit in the cake and the jam in the tart, Hallelujah for the caring heart.
But we don’t have a card said poor Jessie, how will we pay for our bread? We’ve got cash in our pockets, no food in our bellies, don’t let us starve she said.
Meghan who worked in that bakers, said I cannot let this be.
So she took our her own card bought the bread and the tarts, & paid electronically
The couple repaid her in cash, as they loaded iced buns in their bag
They gave a cheery thank you, bid her adieu and for that poor Meghan got the sack
Put the pork in the pie and the cream in the slice, praise the Lord for the understanding heart. Put the fruit in the cake and the jam in the tart Hallelujah for the caring heart.
Yes, Birds the confectioners sacked her
For buying the old folk bread & tarts
Oh Birds the confectioners sacked her
From the rules they could not depart
From the rules they could not depart (oh no) x3
They sacked her for having a heart 💚
For buying the old folk bread & tarts, (oh yes) x3
They sacked her for having a heart 💚
